KNUTD Research Library was established in 1930.
Library Stock is a universal collection of scientific, academic, reference editions and periodicals. It numbers more than 1 million copies of editions, including more than 700 thousand copies of academic editions. The library has digital database of university academic staff papers. Today KNUTD Library is a collection of publications in such directions as textile and clothing, leather and footwear industries (so called “light industry”), economics and marketing, history and culture of Ukraine, urgent problems of the High School, natural and technical sciences. According to its stock content KNUTD Library is a unique one in Ukraine. It has housed industry periodicals (light industry journals) since the 30-th of last century.
Collection of valuable editions (IX-XX centuries) numbers almost 1 000 copies. Ph.D. theses, doctoral theses defended by scientists of the university, abstracts of theses are kept in the library.
Library Stock Guide is a reference and search apparatus and consists of complex of catalogues and files. Each catalogue is of end use, which allows readers to make multi-aspect search according to their enquires. Since 1999 the Library has had electronic catalogue, which numbers over 26 000 of bibliographic entries. Database of analytical descriptions of articles from periodicals that are still to be published is made and supplemented.
Readers are served differentially at six departments of lending library. There are three reading rooms for 200 seats in the library. Among library readers you can see full-time and part-time students, academic staff and other university employees, Ph.D-students, applicants, students of Institute of Continuing Education, university entrants.
“Irbis” system, licence software for automation of library information processes, is implemented in KNUTD Library. “Irbis” software supplies traditional library technologies and is oriented at further development of information technologies. With aim to increase efficiency of library readers’ service a computer registration for first-year students is implemented and digital readers database is made. Automation system “Irbis” is directed at increasing users’ service efficiency and solving new tasks according to Bologna Declaration:
- adoption of new users service technology based on barcoding usage and development of independent user access to library recourses;
- giving users new informational products and services;
- creation of a comfortable informational environment for library readers;
- forming of users’ informational culture as a necessary condition for adaptation to the activity in modern society.
The purpose of KNUTD Library is a creation on the basis of the library of modern library-information centre with usage of new technologies. Programme of the library long-term development for 2008-2012 was developed and adopted in 2008. According to the Programme IT Department was established. It consists of two sectors such as: sector of digital recourses formation and sector of web-access and PC-support.
