KNUTD AT A GLANCE
Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design (KNUTD) was founded in 1930 as Kyiv Polytechnic Institute of Leather Industry. In June 1944 Institute obtained the name of Kyiv Technological Institute of Light Industry (textile and clothing, leather and footwear industries). In 1992 Kyiv Technological Institute of Light Industry was accredited to the 4-th (highest) level of higher education institutions and renamed into State Academy of Light Industry of Ukraine. Later, in 1999, after re-accreditation, it was renamed in Kyiv State University of Technologies and Design. And with time, in 2001 University gained its present name of Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design (KNUTD).
Today Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design is higher education institution of the 4-th level. Licence: АВ №506576 of 25.02.2010.
There are 6 faculties at the University:
- Design;
- Light Industry Technologies (Textile and Clothing, Leather and Footwear Industries);
- Technological Equipment and Control Systems;
- Chemical Technologies;
- Engineer-Economic;
- Market, Information and Innovation Technologies (Engels St, 164а, Cherkasy, Ukraine).
Three institutes are a part of University structure:
- Extramural and Distance Learning;
- Continuing Education;
- Pre-university, Accelerated, Individual Training.
Bachelor courses:
- Design (costume, graphic, textile, interior and furniture, theory and history of design, photo and video design);
- Design (of style);
- Technology and artistic design of textile materials (Technology and design of fabrics and knitted products);
- Clothing produce technology;
- Footwear, leather and saddlery produce technology;
- Information technology in design;
- Professional education (Textile and Light industry technology);
- Automation and computer-integrated technologies;
- Engineering mechanics (Equipment for textile and clothing, leather and footwear industries and domestic service);
- Electromechanics (Electrical household appliances);
- Electronic devices and systems;
- Metrology and measuring technologies;
- Professional education (Metrology, standardization and certification in machine constructing industry);
- Chemical technology (technical electrochemistry; equipment for chemical technology and finishing production; plastics and elastomer processing technology; chemical fibre technology; technology of hide and fur processing, expert examination of hide and fur raw materials);
- Pharmacy;
- Economical cybernetics;
- Enterprise economics;
- Marketing;
- Finances and credit;
- Accounting and auditing;

University facilities. There are 5 academic buildings at the University. Classes and laboratories are equipped with up-to-date equipment and computers. KNUTD library was founded in 1930. It houses more than one million books including 700 000 copies of academic editions.
About 11000 students are studying at the University.
Academic staff. Skilled academic staff numbers about 800 members. Among them you can see 28 academicians and member correspondents of branch Academies of Sciences, 125 professors, doctors of sciences, 385 docents, philosophy doctors, 8 Honoured Scientists of Ukraine, 12 Honoured Workers in popular schooling of Ukraine. Leading scholars from research institutions, chiefs of industrial and commercial enterprises are widely involved in teaching at the University.
Students’ practical training is held at leading enterprises of Ukraine.
Forms of studying: full-time, part-time (extramural education, distance learning, external training).
Branches. KNUTD educational complex includes 14 branches.
KNUTD Colleges in Kyiv and Lviv are separated parts of Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design. They prepare junior specialists for domestic service.
International Cooperation. International Students have been trained in the University since September, 1948. During 61 years about 2000 students from 58 countries of Asia, Africa, Europe and Latin America graduated from University. Since 1993 contingent of international students was supplemented with citizens from Commonwealth of Independent States (Former Soviet Countries) and Baltic Countries (Russia, Belorussia, Moldova, Azerbaijan, Tajikistan, Georgia, Armenia, Lithuania, Estonia).
Employment assistance. University assists graduates in job placement. Rate of graduates’ job placement is 84 %.
Hostels. There are 8 hostels with all modern conveniences at the University. Computer network with Internet access is being developed at the moment. There are disco clubs, café and students’ canteen in university hostels.
Sports. On the basis of Physical Training Department there are sports classes such as track and field athletics, weight lifting, chess, volleyball etc. where students can keep themselves in shape.
Students’ Fashion House unites young people of creative specialities. It is an organiser of annual International Festival “Youth. Style. Fashion” consisting of three professional contests such as competition for young fashion designers of costumes “Pecherski Kashtany”, competition for shoes designers “Zolotyi Cherevychok” (Gold Shoe) and competition for textile designers “Feyeria Barv” (Fairy Play of Colour).
Students are always welcomed in amateur talent groups such as theatre-studio “Bez grymu” (Without Make-Up), modern dancing group BUM“, group of athletic and ballroom dances “Rythm”, groups of oriental dancing, break dance and hip-hop, in vocal group “Smile”, models school, poetical hall and compèring studio.
